I started donating after having my son, because of the delivery I needed blood and was thankful for the donors that it made me want to give back. And now 13 yrs later I still do.

Just want to give back. My blood type is O negative making it easier to give to several pints.
I first donated blood when I turned 18 since my father was a blood donor for many years. In these times when it is not cool to be a goody two shoes, this is one of the things that I have taken pride in being able to do since I have lived a clean life. I wonder how many people have received blood who have disparaged others for being righteous. I have worked hard to keep myself healthy and clean so that I can give the gift of life for others. Only one who has tried to donate blood can appreciate the rigorous criterion that you must sustain to help others.
I donate blood in memory of my mother. She was diagnosed with lymphoma and leukemia back in 2010. It was not full leukemia at that time. But did get worse as time went on. She passed away in October 2012. But blood transfusions and blood platelets were needed for her many times. And helped her get through this and kept her going for over two years. I want to give back for all those who helped my mother and also my granddaughter at age 4 was diagnosed in November of 2012 with LCH (Langerhans cell histiocytosis) she had chemo and blood transfusion also. She fought this disease and is free. No symptons they have done pet scans for the past two years, no sign of anything. So, we pray she remains healthy. I am also O+ so I know I can help a lot of people. I especially like after I have donated and receive a phone call that I have helped saved a life...God Bless.
